Environmentally friendly glass substrate honored by industry CORNING, N.Y. /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) announced today that its EAGLE XG(TM) glass substrates have been honored with two major industry awards: an Advanced Display of the Year (ADY) award and the Display Component of the Year award from the Society for Information Display (SID). EAGLE XG is the first LCD substrate to contain no added heavy metals such as arsenic, antimony and barium. It is also free of halides, such as chlorine, fluorine and bromine, making it the most environmentally friendly LCD glass on the market. (Logo: http://www.xprn.com/xprn/sa/200612081746.jpg ) The ADY contest recognizes excellent products in the field of flat panel display. EAGLE XG was the Grand Prize winner in the Display Components and Materials category. The award presentation ceremony took place at FINETECH (the world's largest trade show in the FPD industry), held in Tokyo in April. The SID Display Component of the Year Award is granted for a novel component that significantly enhances the performance of a display, and EAGLE XG was the Gold Award winner in that category. The award will be presented at SID Display Week 2007 on May 23 in Long Beach, California, USA. "We are honored that Corning is receiving recognition throughout the industry for our new glass, which was developed to help our customers be prepared for tightening environmental regulations," said James P. Clappin, president of Corning Display Technologies. "Since its introduction in early 2006, EAGLE XG has exceeded even our own high expectations, gaining rapid acceptance worldwide." EAGLE XG(TM) offers the same high level of performance as Corning's EAGLE2000(C) glass substrates, which won an ADY award in 2001. "In addition to meeting very tight specifications for surface quality and attributes, EAGLE XG sets a new industry standard as the most environmentally friendly TFT-LCD substrate available anywhere," said Clappin.
