1.5-A and 3-A Linear Regulators Simplify Power Design While Providing High Performance
DALLAS, June 20 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today introduced a series of 1.5-A and 3-A low-dropout linear regulators (LDOs) that feature a one percent voltage regulation accuracy rate over line, load and temperature. The easy-to-use LDOs meet the sequencing requirements for high-current applications such as telecom, notebooks and servers that use FPGAs and TI's digital signal processors (DSPs). See: http://www.ti.com/sc06111 . TI's new TPS74xxx LDOs are stable with any or no output capacitor and support input voltages as low as 0.9 V. The external bias permits low input voltage operation with excellent transient response while providing a high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR). The track input allows user-programmed sequencing to minimize the voltage difference among supply rails during startup. The enable input (EN) and power-good (PG) outputs allow easy sequential sequencing with external regulators. The TPS74xxx family can yield dropout voltages as low as 115 mV at 3 A over the entire input voltage range. They also offer an adjustable output range of 0.8 V to 3.3 V. Key Features of the TPS74xxx family: -- 1.5-A and 3-A LDO Regulators with Programmable Soft-Start (SS) and Tracking (TR) -- Supports Input Voltages as Low as 0.9 V -- Adjustable Output (0.8 V to 3.3 V) -- Ultra-Low Dropout: 55 mV at 1.5 A (TPS74201); 55 mV at 1.5 A (TPS74301); 115 mV at 3 A (TPS74401) -- One Percent Accuracy Over Line, Load and Temperature -- Stable with Any or No Output Capacitor -- Active High Enable and Open-Drain Power-Good -- External BIAS Permits Low Vin Operation with Excellent Transient Response Pricing and Availability The TPS74xxx family of LDOs is available today in volume from TI and its authorized distributors. The devices are offered in a small 5 mm x 5 mm QFN package. Suggested retail pricing in 1,000-piece quantities is $2.25 for the TPS74201 and TPS74301 and $2.95 for the TPS74401 device. For applications that require additional power dissipation, the DDPAK package is available. Evaluation modules of the TPS74xxx, design application notes and TI's easy-to-use online power management selection tool are available through power.ti.com.
