June 17, 2007
CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 17 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Cathay Pacific Airways Limited has chosen Goodrich Corporation to provide advanced cargo systems for its new fleet of Boeing 747-400ERF freighter aircraft. Goodrich's cargo system includes user-friendly electronics which will allow Cathay Pacific to run automated system checks designed to reduce overall downtime when system maintenance work is required. In addition, the contract includes next generation Power Drive Units (PDUs) which will be integrated into the cargo systems to facilitate movement of shipments on board the aircraft. According to Anthony Lynch, Director of Business Development for Goodrich's cargo systems team, "Cathay Pacific Airways' selection of our 747 cargo system adds to our team's strategic presence with the major airlines in the Asia-Pacific region. Our team worked with Boeing to maximize common features of the aircraft's main and lower decks while also reducing the system's overall weight by more than 15 percent allowing us to offer added value to the marketplace. Furthermore, our relationship with Boeing as a cargo systems supplier on the 747 dates back nearly 40 years. This breadth of experience, combined with our systems capability, enables us to provide cargo systems which meet the increased operational needs of airlines and cargo operators worldwide."
