Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related

raise the profile of lung cancer in the media, increase
worldwide disease awareness and reward the dissemination of
intelligent, thought-provoking reporting.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization: Results and Prospects international conference in Almaty: Geopolitical and global aspects
November 30, 2006

    ALMATY, Kazakhstan, Nov. 30 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- A
large-scale international conference, the Shanghai
Cooperation Organization (SCO): Results and Prospects, is
being held in the city of Almaty from November 30 through
December 1, 2006, Kazakhstan's Public Diplomacy Foundation
said.

The conference covers problems and prospects linked to
the activities of the SCO, the largest and most influential
military, political and economic alliance of Eurasian
countries.

Cooperation with the SCO is a key geopolitical priority
for Kazakhstan in forming a regional security system. It is
the SCO that clearly represents Kazakhstan's main strategic
allies. For Kazakhstan, which seeks to maintain a balance of
power, it is very important in terms of foreign policy
efficiency to have such allies as Russia, China,
Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan united in one bloc.
This is why Kazakhstan, which has been a member of the SCO
since it was founded, is putting more and more effort into
making the SCO more constructive, and increasing the SCO's
international prestige and influence.

SCO Secretary General Zhang Deguang's term is about to
expire. Kazakh Foreign Affairs Minister Kasymzhomart
Tokayev said in April during an official visit to Beijing:
"We take this issue very seriously. The position of
the SCO's secretary general is likely to be taken by a
quite experienced diplomat from our country." Bolat
Nurgaliyev has been approved for the position after an
elaborate selection process, and will assume office on
January 1, 2007.

After the Kazakh representative becomes secretary
general, Kazakhstan will clearly play a very active role in
the SCO's activities. Kazakhstan will be more persistent in
proposing new solutions to political and economic problems
faced by the members of the organization. The position of
secretary general will also change in 2007, becoming more
independent and influential.

As a result of Kazakhstan's efforts to make the SCO
more attractive to the international community,
international political and social groups have undoubtedly
paid more attention to the organization's activities and
its global prospects. The effectiveness of Kazakhstan's
efforts is confirmed by the fact that the SCO's conference
is being held in Almaty, Kazakhstan's main financial and
cultural center. Leading experts in geopolitics and
regional problems linked to the SCO's activities are taking
part in the conference. The concept of the conference is
quite constructive: summing up the results of the SCO's
activities for the past five years and considering
scenarios and variants of the SCO's future development.

The principal goal of the conference, set by
Kazakhstan, is to develop a common position and a blueprint
for the future implementation of the SCO's stated goals by
all SCO members on an unofficial, consultative level. It
should be noted that Kazakhstan has always seen the SCO as
a powerful guarantee of a multilateral and balanced foreign
policy, which Kazakhstan will continue to implement in the
future.

Designers of Jin Mao Tower and Pearl River Tower Form New Architecture Firm
November 30, 2006

    CHICAGO, Nov. 30 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Adrian Smith,
FAIA, RIBA, and Gordon Gill, AIA announce the formation of
their new design practice Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill
Architecture. The firm will focus on the design of high
performance and sustainable architecture on an
international scale, intending to be a leader in the
development of new strategies for environmentally conscious
buildings.

Smith, a former Design Partner at Skidmore, Owings
& Merrill (SOM), and Gill, a former Associate Partner
at SOM, have extensive international experience in the
creation of mixed-use projects and supertall towers. Their
recent collaboration while at SOM, a zero energy tower in
Guangzhou, China, demonstrates the designers' commitment to
sustainability. The project aims to be the world's first
supertall tower that produces as much energy as it
consumes. It is currently featured in the exhibitions
"Sustainable Architecture in Chicago" and
"Massive Change" both at the Museum of
Contemporary Art in Chicago.

Smith and Gill emphasize that while the firm is
dedicated to design quality and energy efficiency, they are
not committed to a single aesthetic. Smith and Gill said,
"Our philosophy is based on a holistic approach to
design that integrates all disciplines. Because the
process is predicated on creating high-performance designs,
it always results in a unique architectural
expression."

Combined, Smith and Gill have over 50 years of design
experience. While at SOM, Smith designed such projects as
Burj Dubai, slated to be the world's tallest tower; Jin Mao
Tower in Shanghai; McGraw Hill, Bank of America, Morgan
Stanley European Headquarters and 201 Broadgate Tower in
London; Rowes Wharf in Boston; United Gulf Bank in Manama;
ATT/USG Headquarters, the Millennium Park Master Plan and
Trump Tower Chicago, all in Chicago; and 601 Congress
Street in Boston, the first all-double wall LEED(R)
certified building in the country. Projects under his
direction have won 90 awards for design excellence.

In addition to 10 years of experience at SOM, Gill has
previously worked for design firms in Orlando, Detroit and
Toronto. As a senior designer at SOM, his work included
Pearl River Tower in Guangzhou; Nanjing Greenland Tower;
Samsumg Togok Tower in Seoul; the Jesse Brown Medical

Avnet Electronics Marketing Recognized as Best Distributor in China
November 30, 2006

Nationwide Poll of More than 400,000 Ranks Global Distribution Giant Top in Market Share, Technology And Product Quality in Passive Component Category
    SHANGHAI, China, Nov. 30 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Avnet
Electronics Marketing Asia, an operating group of the
leading global technology distributor, Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:
AVT), has announced that it has won another top industry
award in the fiercely competitive distribution market of
China. The company has been recognized as the "Best
Distributor in the Component Industry" in the passive
and discrete distribution category at the China Component
Leader Award Ceremony.

The accolade comes hard on the heels of this month's
announcement that Avnet Electronics Marketing was ranked in
the Top 25 of InformationWeek China's list of 100 of the
nation's best users of information technology for the
second year in a row.

"As the world's leading electronic components
distribution organization, it is indeed rewarding to see
our strengths and capabilities recognized in one of the
world's most dynamic and rapidly growing markets,"
said Stephen Wong, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing
Asia. "Avnet Electronic Marketing is grateful to
receive this prestigious award, which echoes our commitment
to the China market and focus on delivering what we call
'support across the board'. The solid recognition by
survey participants is concrete proof that our focus on
customer service is bearing fruit."

"More than anything else, I think this award
highlights that we are not just a leader in semiconductor
distribution. We are clearly a key player in the field of
interconnect, passive and electromechanical components too.
That enables us to provide a one-stop total solution, makes
the difference for customers and differentiates Avnet
Electronics Marketing from the competition in the component
distribution industry," Stephen added.

Organized by ChinaECNet, China's leading electronics
web portal, in partnership with China Electronic Purchasing
Association and "China Electronics Fair" (CEF),
the "China Component Leader" award was presented
to Avnet Electronics Marketing Asia at a gala ceremony in
Shanghai.

"The recognition reflects the fact that we are
doing more than just meeting our customers' requirements.
Our commitment to customer satisfaction is demonstrated
through our extensive product offerings and our ability to
deliver total solutions with multiple product lines
leveraging on core and peripherals components, providing a
one-stop-shop experience and time-to-revenue benefit to
customers. We are also continuing to drive for innovation
in supply chain and design chain to help our customers stay
ahead of the competition," said Peter Wong, vice
president of strategic planning and commodity business,
Avnet Electronics Marketing Asia.

The award winners were identified following national
surveys conducted by both ChinaECNet and CEF to select a
limited number of China Component Leaders in each field,
with a focus on passive and discrete components. The
selection criteria included market share, technology and
product quality.

The exhaustive selection process polled ChinaECNet's
300,000 online members as well as China Electronic Fair's
100,000-strong attendee database. In addition to the
recognition of their outstanding success, the successful
award winners, including Avnet Electronics Marketing Asia,
received the opportunity to speak at the China Component
Leaders Open Forum and introduce their companies, products
and technologies to the 50,000 convention visitors and
thousands of ChinaECNet online viewers across the Nation.

The Grand "China Component Leader" Award
Ceremony took place at The Seagull Palace in Shanghai on
Nov 23, 2006. It was attended by more than 400 of China's
electronic business leaders, Chinese senior government
officials from the China Ministry of Information Industry

New Test Generators and Upgrades Enable HDMI(TM) v1.3 36-bit Deep Color Display Development and Manufacturing
November 29, 2006

    ELGIN, Ill., Nov. 29 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Quantum
Data(TM), a worldwide provider of video test equipment,
today announced the release of new video signal generators
and upgrades supporting High-Definition Multimedia
Interface (HDMI) version 1.3, enabling display
manufacturers to design and manufacture 36-bit deep color
displays.

HDMI is a prime digital interface for connecting
displays to home theatre, broadcast and gaming sources.
HDMI version 1.3 (v1.3) of the interface is backwards
compatible with previous versions and adds options for
wide-gamut color, faster pixel rates, cable equalization,
smaller connectors, advanced audio formats, and lip sync
correction -- in addition to deep color.

Video test equipment is required to check HDMI
compliance and interoperability during development of
displays and to detect defects during manufacturing. Today,
few displays support the latest HDMI options available in
v1.3, as manufacturers have had to wait for silicon and
video test equipment to catch up with HDMI specification
enhancements before proceeding.

Quantum Data's new model 881E and 882E generators,
built with the latest chips from Silicon Image, are capable
of generating triple 12-bit/component colors in 4:4:4
sampling mode up to 165M pixels/second. Added test images
reveal "banding" in fine color transitions -- a
defect that is supposed to be eliminated by HDMI v1.3's new
"deep color" option. As with previous offerings,
the new generators output any video format on-demand,
render test images, produce test tones, and perform a
variety of compliance tests.

The new generators will begin shipping in limited
quantities in December 2006, with full-production scheduled
for Q1 2007. The company also announced the availability of
upgrades for converting existing 881C and 882C generators
to 881E and 882E generators.

the series 880, go to

Certicom Collaborates with Texas Instruments for RFID Authentication and Encryption
November 29, 2006

Certicom Security for RFID Product Authentication protects high-value products against counterfeiting and ensures privacy
    DALLAS, Nov. 29 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Certicom Corp.
(TSX: CIC) today launched Certicom Security for RFID
Product Authentication, a solution that ensures
authenticity and prevents counterfeiting of high-value
items as they move through the supply chain. In
collaboration with Texas Instruments Incorporated (NYSE:
TXN) (TI) Certicom is using its elliptic curve cryptography
(ECC) expertise to add item-level RFID tag security that
protects product information and proves the legitimacy of
products, such as pharmaceuticals and other high-value
consumer goods. For products like these that require a high
level of security, RFID solutions providers can use Certicom
security and TI's family of ISO 15693 RFID tags to deliver
product protection with authentication and encryption.

    (Logo:
http://www.xprn.com.cn:9080/xprn/sa/20061107170439-20.jpg
)

Certicom and TI are currently engaged with companies in
the pharmaceutical supply chain where valuable medicines are
susceptible to counterfeiting, which can lead to significant
asset losses and patient consumer safety issues. In tandem,
they are addressing the high-value goods industry where
protection of brand integrity is imperative to reducing
product theft and diversion of goods for sale on the black
market. Examples of these products range from brand-name
apparel and cosmetics to professionally signed baseballs,
poker chips, printer ink cartridges and legal documents.

Certicom uses standards-based and proven cryptographic
protocols for its RFID appliance, including a standardized
public-key cryptography scheme from IEEE 1363a. This
efficient ECC-based digital signature scheme enables a high
level of security to be added to the tag without requiring a
lot of computing power and storage. For example, at 160
bits, ECC provides the same level of protection as a
1024-bit RSA key but is approximately one-third the size.

"By collaborating with Certicom, we demonstrate a
highly efficient, standardized security solution that
delivers privacy protection and authentication," said
Joseph Pearson, business development manager for TI RFID.
"A standardized approach is imperative to provide a
proven level of security, and to promote interoperability
and compatibility going forward."

Certicom Security for RFID Product Authentication works
as a distributed system where there may not be dedicated
Internet connectivity to a database, to provide real-time
authentication of a tagged product. A simple application
programming interface (API) enables developers to integrate
the product's components with RFID middleware and enterprise
applications.

"The RFID industry is telling us that what is
needed is a security infrastructure that provides the
smallest possible standardized digital signatures, along
with privacy protection features, with integrated key
management to meet the needs of the supply chain
constituency, especially the pharmaceutical manufacturers
and retailers," said Jim Alfred, director of product
management for Certicom. "TI has been instrumental in
providing their expertise and insight on the industry when
it comes to what is required for RFID product
authentication. This is what we are delivering."

Certicom Security for RFID Product Authentication will
be demonstrated at TI's Booth #3015 at the RFID Healthcare
Industry Adoption Summit at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel
in Washington, D.C., November 12-15, 2006. The Summit is
sponsored by National Association of Chain Drug Stores and
the Healthcare Distribution Management Association.

collaborating on RFID product authentication and to view

November 28, 2006

    UTRECHT, Netherlands, Nov. 28 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ --
The EURAIL GROUP G.I.E. is offering its customers even more
choice in European rail travel by increasing its product
range to include new passes and country combinations from
2007.

Eurail's popular National Pass range, offering
travellers the possibility to discover a single country in
depth, will have more countries in its portfolio with
Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemburg), Croatia,
Ireland, Italy and Portugal available from January 1,
thereby increasing the total number of passes to 15.

In addition, the Eurail Regional Pass, created three
years ago to allow unlimited travel in two bordering
countries, will also have new countries combinations on
offer. In 2007, customers will be able to choose Austria
and Hungary or Italy and Spain in addition to the 16 other
passes already available.

"Eurail is adapting its pass range to match the
way many overseas visitors travel today," says Rene de
Groot, Eurail's Managing Director. "With holidays
abroad getting shorter and more frequent, many travellers
have less time for extended journeys throughout Europe, and
our National and Regional passes will allow them to

trip. By adding these pass options, we are offering our
customers increasingly more choice and value for
money."

In addition to the Eurail National and Regional Passes,
Eurail continues to offer the Eurail Select Pass, valid for
3, 4 or 5 bordering countries chosen by the traveller, as
well as the original Eurailpass (renamed to Eurail Global

Find and Be Found -- Worldwide: eTrade Center Opens International Cooperation Platform
November 28, 2006

HEIDELBERG and BERLIN, Germany, Nov. 28
/Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Germany based Empanada Group has
launched an international and multilingual cooperation

"Covering 380 trade sectors in 250 cities and 60

eTrade Center's CEO, Cyriacus Schultze, at the opening.
"Our motto is >>trade smartly<<: keep

The search for potential business partners can be done

    GENEVA, Nov. 28 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- WHO Member

December to initiate talks aimed at increasing research and
development for medicines and other medical products
tailored to the needs of poor populations.

The first session of the Intergovernmental Working
Group on Innovation, Public health and Intellectual
Property will discuss ways to stimulate research and
development for neglected and other diseases affecting
developing countries; improve delivery systems and access;
and examine sustainable financing mechanisms to ensure
long-term benefits.

Despite enormous progress in the prevention, diagnosis
and treatment of disease, developing countries still remain
largely excluded from the benefits of modern science.
Caught in a cycle of poverty and disease, people in the
hardest-hit countries face shorter life expectancies and
economic decline.

The issue of better access to healthcare products for
poor populations has been the subject of many World Health
Assembly resolutions. In May 2006, Member States asked WHO
to establish an Inter-Governmental Working Group on
Innovation, Public health and Intellectual property.

The Working Group's mandate is to prepare a global
strategy and plan of action on essential health research to
address conditions affecting developing countries
disproportionately. The resulting global plan of action
will be presented to the World Health Assembly in
mid-2008.

    Note to editors

Geneva 20, in Conference Room 1. It will open at 10:00 on

December 2006.

    Media accreditation procedures

Correspondents wishing to cover the Inter-Governmental
Working Group must apply to the Communication Department at
the World Health Organization. To do this, journalists
should send a fax (+41 22 791 4858) or email

for accreditation, the dates for which accreditation is
required and a photocopy of media credentials.
Accreditation badges will be available to journalists at
the International Conference Centre Geneva on Monday 4
December from 08.00hrs. Journalists who are already
accredited by the UN Palais des Nations do not require
additional media accreditation.

NeuStar Acquires Followap, UK-based Enabler of Mobile IM Services in Europe and Asia
November 28, 2006

Schedules Conference Call, Web Cast at 5 P.M. EST Today
    STERLING, Va., Nov. 28 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- NeuStar,
Inc. (NYSE: NSR), a provider of essential communications
services to the global communications and Internet
industry, announced today that it has acquired Followap,
Inc., a UK-based leading provider of mobile instant
messaging (IM) products in Europe and Asia, for
approximately $139 million in cash. NeuStar projects
Followap revenue to exceed $25 million in 2007 and to more
than double in 2008. NeuStar affirmed the 2006 full-year
guidance issued on November 2, 2006, and confirmed that the
acquisition of Followap did not impact its 2006 guidance.

Followap is a leading provider of next-generation
communications solutions for network operators, delivering
interoperability between operators and Internet portals in
five different functional areas: instant messaging,
presence, multimedia gateways, inter-carrier messaging
hubs, and services for handset clients. Working with
Europe's leading mobile and fixed-line operators, Followap
has a customer base of 17 mobile network operators (MNOs)
that have over 160 million subscribers. Customers, such as
Vodafone, Turkcell, 3 Group (Hutchison), Wind and Mobinil,
all rely on Followap to provide them with innovative
solutions to implement the operator-based, Personal IM
service, as well as to provide mobile access to leading
Internet IM portals.

Followap also works closely with leading Internet
service providers (ISPs) and specializes in seamlessly
connecting mobile subscribers to their favorite
portal-based instant messaging applications, in addition to
network operator-based services such as Personal IM.
Followap's advanced IM client solutions have recently been
adopted by leading handset manufacturers. The GSM
Association has identified Personal IM as a pan-industry,
mobile operator-hosted, messaging service that is a
critical complement and an upgrade to existing mobile
messaging services, including text and multimedia messaging
and telephone-number based presence. Personal IM will
enhance services and capabilities for over 1.2 billion
mobile messaging users globally -- the largest, fully
interoperable user community, short of voice telephony,
which generates over $60 billion in revenues for mobile
operators and sends over 1 trillion messages per year. As
announced at the annual GSMA's 3GSM World Congress 2006 in
Barcelona, Personal IM is scheduled for a coordinated
mobile industry launch starting in the first quarter of
2007 across major European and Asian markets.

    Strategy Behind Acquisition

The Followap acquisition expands NeuStar's platform for
growth, especially in mobile, IP and international markets.
Followap furthers NeuStar's strategy by extending and
complementing our current beachhead initiatives in new
growth markets such as the GSM Association root DNS
service, the acquisition of UltraDNS and the development of
the SIP-IX service.

First, Followap brings a large community of new
customers outside of North America. Second, it makes
NeuStar essential to a new, fast growing service for the
wireless industry. And, third, it enables NeuStar to solve
immediate infrastructure challenges the MNOs face in
delivering advanced, IP-based services.

Followap will form the core of NeuStar's Next
Generation Messaging group and will complement NeuStar's
SIP-IX suite of interoperability product offerings and
services. Combined with NeuStar's technology depth, the
Followap service and product suite will enable network
operators worldwide to provide mobile instant messaging to
their subscribers across networks and ISPs.

With the addition of Followap, NeuStar's new mobile IM
solution suite will now support:

    * Multimedia messaging and real-time communications
    * Mobile phone number-based addressing
    * Presence as well as soft-state availability
information; turning the
handset phonebook into a buddy list
    * Cross-carrier chat sessions and group messaging
    * Location-based information services using presence
technology
    * Seamless interoperability amongst operators and
backward compatibility
      with existing mobile messaging services

Commentary from Company Executives & Industry
Observers

Jeff Ganek, NeuStar's Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer said, "Strong demand is emerging worldwide for
Instant Messaging, and leading mobile network operators in
Europe already depend on Followap's products to deliver IM.
Mobile network operators can rely on NeuStar and Followap
for the necessary technical and service quality to support
their growing IM volumes. By enabling IM, NeuStar will
build on Followap's strengths to deliver essential
infrastructure services in Europe and Asia."

Dotan Volach, Followap's Chief Executive Officer added,
"We are pleased to join the NeuStar team. NeuStar's
next generation services, including SIP-IX, support and
extend Followap's products, and will enable the combined
company to become the leading provider of infrastructure
services essential to delivering IP data services over
mobile networks."

"NeuStar wrote a number of the key next-generation
technology standards, such as the SIP protocol, as well as
the ENUM-like directory standards for accessing phone
number-based routing and mobile number portability data
critical for IM interoperability," said Mark Foster,
NeuStar CTO. Foster continued, "Followap brings
operator class-leading next-generation messaging products
that, alongside NeuStar's track record as a trusted
provider of essential interoperability, directory, and
managed services, position us collectively to support the
full spectrum of industry needs for these vital services.
The combination will offer messaging, presence, dynamic
routing, and interworking services to network operators and
internet portal providers around the globe."

According to Pete Nuthall, Mobile & Wireless
Industry Analyst of Frost & Sullivan Europe,
"Mobile IM is the next major global messaging revenue
opportunity, as it represents both the functional evolution
of SMS and has an existing 1 billion plus global SMS user
base into which it will grow. Followap is a world leader
in mobile IM applications, presence, and inter-carrier
messaging. NeuStar's unique capabilities include
deciphering and interpreting billions of connections
initiated by thousands of service providers each day in a
neutral and efficient manner. Combining the two is a
significant win for the industry."

u-blox Releases TIM-4R Dead Reckoning GPS Module
November 28, 2006

(Picture is available at http://www.u-blox.com/news/tim_4r.jpg )
    THALWIL, Switzerland, Nov. 28 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ --
u-blox AG, the leading Swiss provider of GPS chips, modules
and services, today released the TIM-4R GPS module with dead
reckoning technology that ensures 100% road coverage in even
the most challenging GPS signal environments.

    Powered by u-blox' 16-channel ANTARIS(R) 4 positioning
engine, this GPS module provides uninterrupted positioning
in environments where GPS operation was previously not
possible and offers better navigation performance using
less power than its predecessor, the TIM-LR.

u-blox' dead reckoning technology uses additional
sensors that detect travelled distance with an odometer and
turn rate using a gyroscope, supplementing GPS data and thus
providing an accurate position in tunnels, indoor parking
facilities, roofed logistics centers, urban canyons and any
other environment where obstructed GPS signals hinder
positioning.

Continuous coverage allows for GPS-enabled applications
such as emergency vehicle services, asset and vehicle
tracking products and road pricing systems, which require
uninterrupted navigation.

"The TIM-4R is a gateway technology that
simplifies the creation of a wide range of GPS-enabled
applications that require a highly accurate positioning
solution with non-stop road coverage, even in the harshest
signal environments," said Thomas Nigg, Head of
Product Marketing and Application Engineering.

Other systems use either GPS or dead reckoning, both of
which have shortcomings. In contrast to switching between
GPS and dead reckoning, which can lead to errors, the
module's speciality lies in its weighted mix of both
approaches that counters their respective disadvantages.
Its built-in extended Kalman filter algorithm uses a
combination of GPS and sensor data where the weighting
depends on the quality of the GPS signals. Depending on the
quality of the GPS signal and on how well the dead-reckoning
sensors are calibrated, a weighted mix of both GPS and dead
reckoning generates optimal results.

Narrow streets between high-rise buildings also cause
multi-path effects, resulting in degraded navigation
accuracy and reliability. The TIM-4R's algorithmic approach
eliminates these multi-path effects, position inaccuracies,
and distortions from jamming sources.

Samples will be available in February 2007.
