Quellan and Molex Extend PCI Express Reach for Data Center Interconnects

Quellan Brings PCI Express from Motherboard to the Data Center Using X-TEN(TM) Technology and Molex iPass Interconnect System
LISLE, Ill., June 6 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Quellan
Incorporated, a leading provider of analog signal integrity
chips for the rapidly growing data center, consumer,
automotive and cell phone markets, and Molex(R)
Incorporated (Nasdaq: MOLX, MOLXA), a global manufacturer
of interconnect systems, today ran the proposed PCI Express
Cable Standard to 30 meters -- a breakthrough for Data
Center economics.
At Globalcomm, both Quellan and Molex demonstrated the
ability to extend data center reach at 2.5 Gbps to over
four times the length of the currently proposed PCI Express
Standard of seven meters. By combining Quellan's low power
X-TEN Cable Extension Module with Molex's iPass(TM)
interconnect system, signal reach extension is made
possible by compensating for channel noise, attenuation and
impairments, all of which greatly affect signal quality
after seven meters of transmission.
Ideal for high density clusters and remote I/O
applications, reach extension of PCI Express allows Data
Center equipment to be interconnected at ultra high speeds
using a low cost PC standard.
"Molex has established itself as a major player in
PC interconnect technology, in particular given our recent
success of using the iPass Interconnect System within the
PCI Express Standard," said Gourgen Oganessyan, Senior
Signal Integrity Engineer, Molex Incorporated.
"Partnering with a cutting-edge silicon technology
player such as Quellan has allowed us to extend the reach
of our cable assemblies, while ensuring reliable data
transmission at PCI speeds (up to five Gbps), and all the
way to next generation SAS speeds (up to 6 Gbps). By doing
this we have demonstrated a feasible and cost effective
technology that will cover over 90 percent of the Data
Center application space."
"PCI Express is a major PC Interconnect Standard
today. Bringing this pervasive PC interconnect to the Data
Center will provide huge economic benefits, now that it can
go the distance," said Tony Stelliga, President and
CEO of Quellan. "The Quellan Lane Manager chips used
in our X-TEN Module coupled with Molex's iPass interconnect
system enable this transition to PC economics in the Data
Center."
